How we built a B Corp ecosystem rooted in Tuscany

In a world where sustainability claims have become commonplace, few businesses choose to submit themselves to one of the most demanding assessments of social and environmental performance available today.

The Jollie ecosystem has done exactly that.

Created by Pierre and Rebecca Gouttenoire, Jollie is not a single company but an ecosystem of complementary businesses and projects rooted in Tuscany, including Grape Tours, Formaggioteca Terroir and Podere Campo Sasso. More than a corporate milestone, the achievement of B Corp Certification recognizes a model that has been built over the years around a simple yet ambitious idea: that tourism, food, wine and agriculture can create value not only for customers, but also for local communities, producers and the environment.

A Vision Born from the Territory

Long before sustainability became a marketing trend, Pierre and Rebecca Gouttenoire were spending their days introducing travelers to family-owned wineries, artisanal cheesemakers and small agricultural producers across Tuscany.

What began as a passion for authentic food and wine experiences gradually evolved into something larger.

Through Grape Tours, visitors discovered the people behind some of Italy’s most remarkable wines.

Through Formaggioteca Terroir, consumers gained access to carefully selected cheeses, wines and specialty products sourced from producers who shared a commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

With Podere Campo Sasso, the ecosystem took another step forward, becoming directly involved in the stewardship and enhancement of the Tuscan landscape itself. Campo Sasso also plays a key role in the ecosystem by hosting the maturation and aging of the cheeses sold through Formaggioteca Terroir, creating a direct link between agricultural stewardship, artisanal know-how and the final customer experience.

Although these activities appear different at first glance, they have always shared the same DNA: preserving local heritage, supporting responsible production and creating meaningful connections between people and places.

Over time, these ventures became part of a broader vision embodied by Jollie—an ecosystem built around shared values rather than a traditional corporate structure.

The B Corp certification simply makes visible what has long been embedded in the ecosystem’s culture.

Why B Corp Matters

Unlike many sustainability labels that focus on a single product, ingredient or environmental metric, B Corp evaluates the entire organization.

To become certified, companies undergo a comprehensive assessment covering governance, environmental impact, employee wellbeing, customer responsibility, community engagement and supply chain practices.

The process requires extensive documentation, third-party verification and a commitment to continuous improvement.

For consumers, this distinction matters.

At a time when terms such as "green," "sustainable" and "ethical" are often used loosely, B Corp provides an internationally recognized framework that helps separate genuine commitment from marketing rhetoric.

The certification confirms that an organization is not only asking how much profit it generates, but also how it creates that value and who benefits from it.

The Originality of an Entire Ecosystem Being Certified

What makes Jollie’s achievement particularly noteworthy is the scope of the certification.

Rather than applying to a single business unit or activity, the certification encompasses an interconnected ecosystem operating across tourism, retail, gastronomy and agriculture.

This holistic approach remains relatively uncommon.

Guests who join a wine tour through Grape Tours, customers purchasing artisan products from Formaggioteca Terroir, or visitors engaging with the agricultural projects of Podere Campo Sasso are all participating in a network guided by the same principles and measured against the same standards.

In many ways, the ecosystem covers the entire journey of terroir: from the land itself through Podere Campo Sasso, where cheeses are carefully matured and aged, to the producers and artisans showcased by Formaggioteca Terroir, and finally to the visitors and travelers welcomed through Grape Tours.

The result is consistency.

The values experienced by a traveler visiting a family winery are the same values reflected in supplier relationships, sourcing decisions, employee practices and environmental initiatives across the entire ecosystem.

What It Means for Customers

For customers, the certification offers more than reassurance—it offers transparency.

Choosing a B Corp-certified organization means engaging with businesses that have committed to accountability beyond financial performance alone.

It means greater confidence that:

  • Local producers are treated as long-term partners rather than interchangeable suppliers.

  • Environmental impacts are measured and actively managed.

  • Business decisions take social and community outcomes into consideration.

  • Transparency and ethical conduct are embedded into operations.

  • Continuous improvement is part of the ecosystem’s culture.

  • Products such as the cheeses offered by Formaggioteca Terroir benefit from a carefully managed maturation process at Podere Campo Sasso, ensuring traceability, quality and respect for traditional methods.

For travelers increasingly seeking authentic experiences and conscious consumption, these commitments have become an important part of the overall value proposition.

The experience is not only memorable; it is aligned with a broader positive impact.

A Journey, Not a Destination

Ask any B Corp leader and they will tell you the same thing: certification is not the finish line.

The B Corp framework is designed around continuous progress. Companies must regularly reassess their performance, identify opportunities for improvement and demonstrate ongoing commitment to higher standards.

For Pierre and Rebecca Gouttenoire, the certification represents both recognition and responsibility.

Recognition of years spent building relationships with producers, investing in local communities and creating experiences rooted in authenticity.

Responsibility to continue improving, innovating and proving that business can be a force for good.

Looking Ahead

As travelers become more conscious about where they spend their money and consumers increasingly seek products with genuine stories behind them, businesses face growing pressure to demonstrate their values through action rather than words.

Jollie’s B Corp certification is evidence that another model is possible.

A model where tourism supports local agriculture.

Where commerce helps preserve traditional craftsmanship.

Where profitability and positive impact are not competing objectives but mutually reinforcing goals.

In Tuscany, among vineyards, farms and artisanal producers, Pierre and Rebecca Gouttenoire have spent years quietly building that model through the businesses and projects that now form the Jollie ecosystem.

Today, with B Corp certification across its entire ecosystem, Jollie joins a global movement of organizations redefining success—not by what they extract from the world, but by what they contribute to it.
