Itinerary Towers of San Gimignano
Wednesday’s Elite Experience is a special excursion designed to showcase the wines of two neighboring yet distinct regions: San Gimignano and Chianti Classico. Your day begins at our meeting point/office in Florence at 8:45 AM. We recommend arriving a little early to check in and use the bathroom facilities, and be sure to have breakfast before departure. From there, we set off on a scenic one-hour drive south to San Gimignano.
The medieval towers of San Gimignano alone are worth the journey, but this region is also famed for its exceptional white wines, primarily made from the native Vernaccia grape, found only here. Along the way, your expert wine guide will share insights into the area’s unique history, its revival as a wine-producing powerhouse, and what makes its wines so distinctive.
Our first stop is a welcoming, family-owned organic winery celebrated for crafting some of the region’s finest whites, ranging from young and fresh styles to more structured and complex expressions. After touring the cellars and learning about the different winemaking techniques, you’ll enjoy a tasting of several whites, paired with fresh Tuscan bread and their own extra virgin olive oil.
Next, we visit the gates of San Gimignano itself, where you’ll have time to wander through its cobblestone streets, explore artisan shops, and take in the charm of its lively piazzas.
From there, we continue to an ancient hamlet, dating back to 1126, now transformed into a winery with a charming restaurant. Here you’ll enjoy a delicious tasting menu thoughtfully paired with the estate’s wines, from white and rosé to bold reds and even a dessert wine.
The day concludes at a fairytale-like castle, also family-owned and dedicated to organic winemaking with a focus on native grape varieties, primarily reds. You’ll explore the castle grounds and historic cellars, hear fascinating stories about its dramatic past, and indulge in a wine tasting experience truly fit for royalty.
