Itinerary Super ChiantiSuper Chianti is an amazing day trip that takes you from Florence into the super picturesque and delicious Chianti & Chianti Classico regions. We meet at the Grape Tours office where you will check in and get ready for the tour. After just half an hour's ride, we reach the beautiful Chianti region and kick off the day at an old Tuscan farmhouse winery and learn about the grape-to-bottle process. Once we've covered every aspect of the winemaking, we sit down to taste 4 beautiful wines accompanied by fresh olive oil and sheep's milk cheeses made at the winery's own dairy farm. Our next stop is in Panzano in Chianti at the notorious butcher Dario Cecchini. We'll enjoy a delicious lunch featuring four meat dishes inspired by Dario's family recipes and a taste of the famous Bistecca alla Fiorentina. After lunch, continue to the next winery where we will be treated to a private tour and learn about the traditions of the oldest wine region of the world!

In the period of the Etruscans, Carmignano was already producing wine.
The region was given its current input of Cabernet thanks to the Medici family who owned large parts of land in the area already 500 yrs ago.
The main grape variety is the red Sangiovese, but Canaiolo also plays are role in the blend, and so does the otherwise non-native Cabernet (Sauv or Franc). For the whites, Trebbiano and Malvasia are once again the favorites.
The most noteworthy wine is the Carmignano DOCG, a blend with primarily Sangiovese. Carmignano is a 2 yr old wine, 3 yrs for the Riserva. A younger red, Barco Reale, is also made. Also great dessert wine is made, Vin Santo, some whites (also macerated), and rosato (rosé).
