CHIANTI RUFINA

Nestled in the rolling hills of Chianti Rufina, northeast of Florence, Fattoria Selvapiana is one of Tuscany's most historic and respected wine estates. For generations, the winery has been synonymous with elegant, age-worthy Sangiovese, proving that Chianti Rufina can stand proudly alongside the more famous wines of Chianti Classico. Today, the estate is guided by Federico Giuntini Masseti, who grew up among these vineyards and continues his family's long tradition of producing wines that faithfully express the unique character of this exceptional appellation.

The vineyards benefit from the cooler climate and higher elevations of Chianti Rufina, conditions that allow Sangiovese to ripen slowly while retaining remarkable freshness, finesse and aromatic complexity. Although the estate has followed organic farming principles for many years, its focus has always been on thoughtful stewardship of the land rather than certification itself. Every decision in the vineyard is made with the long-term health of the vines and the surrounding environment in mind.

The winery beautifully combines history with modern craftsmanship. Beneath the historic villa lies an atmospheric cellar where old vintages quietly mature, offering a glimpse into the estate's remarkable ageing potential. Alongside it, a modern cellar equipped with stainless steel fermentation tanks provides the precision needed to produce wines that balance tradition with purity and elegance. In addition to its acclaimed Chianti Rufina wines, Selvapiana also produces wines from the historic Pomino DOC, one of Tuscany's oldest officially recognised wine regions, established by Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici in 1716.

A visit to Selvapiana is an opportunity to discover one of Tuscany's great hidden treasures. With its rich history, understated authenticity and beautifully crafted wines, the estate offers a compelling introduction to Chianti Rufina—a denomination whose elegance and longevity continue to surprise even the most experienced wine lovers.
