Selvapiana - winery in Chianti Rufina

CHIANTI RUFINA

Fattoria Selvapiana stands as a historic estate in Chianti Rufina, situated northwest of Florence, and is expertly overseen by owner Federico Giuntini Masseti, who practically grew up within the winery. The wines from this estate rival the best in the region, even standing tall against its more renowned sibling, Chianti Classico.

The winery exudes an authentic charm devoid of unnecessary extravagance. An underground cellar adds a touch of history, showcasing a library of old vintages. The newer, spacious cellar is equipped with stainless steel vats for fermentation and blending. While the winery has embraced organic practices for years, it operates without formal certification, considering the bureaucratic nature of the process in Italy.

Selvapiana also extends its vinicultural prowess to the small Pomino DOC appellation. Pomino holds historical significance as one of Tuscany's earliest wine-producing areas, recognized by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de Medici, in 1716 alongside Classico, Carmignano, and Valdarno Superiore.
