Selvapiana - winery in Chianti Rufina

CHIANTI RUFINA

Fattoria Selvapiana is one of the historical estates of Chianti Rufina, Northwest of Florence. It is very run by owner Federico Giuntini Masseti who was practically born into the winery. The wines are as good as they can get in this area, standing up to some of the best of the more famous older brother, the Chianti Classico region. The winery is delightfully authentic with no frenzies. A historical underground cellar in which can admire a library of old vintages. The new cellar is spacious and contains stainless steel vats for fermentation and blending. The winery has worked in an organic way for years, but without the certification (which in Italy can be quite bureaucratic). Selvapiana also produces wine from the small Pomino DOC appellation. Pomino is one of the historical wine producing areas of Tuscany. In 1716 the Granduke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de Medici made the first law to protect the most important wine appellations. Pomino was one of the four with Classico, Carmignano and Valdarno Superiore.
