L'Erta di Radda

CHIANTI CLASSICO

Perched on the steep hillsides just outside the medieval village of Radda in Chianti, Erta di Radda is a small organic winery where every bottle reflects the dedication of its owner and winemaker, Diego Finocchi. The estate was founded in 2006, when Diego fulfilled his dream of purchasing five hectares of historic vineyards while still studying Viticulture and Enology. Since then, he has personally overseen every aspect of production—from pruning the vines to welcoming visitors at the cellar.

The name Erta means "steep climb," a fitting tribute to the dramatic slopes on which the vineyards are planted. Situated at around 430 metres above sea level on classic galestro and alberese soils, the vines benefit from cool temperatures and excellent drainage, producing elegant, vibrant Sangiovese with remarkable freshness and mineral character. The estate has been farmed organically since 2009, with a strong commitment to biodiversity and respect for the surrounding landscape.

Production remains intentionally small, allowing Diego to craft wines that are unmistakably expressive of Radda's high-altitude terroir. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts, grapes are harvested entirely by hand, and the winemaking follows a traditional, low-intervention philosophy that lets the vineyard speak for itself.

A visit to Erta di Radda is as personal as it gets. Rather than touring a large commercial estate, you'll spend time with a passionate artisan whose hands are involved in every bottle, gaining a genuine insight into the beauty, challenges and rewards of producing authentic Chianti Classico on some of the region's steepest vineyards.
