Itinerary Carmignano
Our day begins at our meeting point/office in Florence at 9:30 AM (we recommend arriving a little early to check in and use the bathroom facilities). Please also make sure to have breakfast before starting the tour for the best experience.
You’ll be guided by our English-speaking expert Grape Guide, and in a small group of no more than eight guests, you’ll board our luxury Mercedes van and head west of Florence towards Carmignano, a charming region just 45 minutes away.
Carmignano is Tuscany’s smallest and possibly oldest wine region, steeped in history. The influential Medici family left an indelible mark here by constructing the long defensive wall known as the Barco Reale, building several stunning Renaissance villas, and—legend has it—introducing Cabernet vines from France.
Our journey includes a stop to view one of the historic Medici villas, where you can admire the countryside views and the grandeur of Renaissance architecture. A short ride then takes us to a renowned boutique winery known for its biodynamic farming and luscious wines. We’ll tour the vineyards, step into their historic winery (which feels like traveling back in time), and enjoy a wine tasting in the old farmhouse kitchen, accompanied by the world’s best bruschetta.
Our second stop is at a family-owned estate, the largest in Carmignano yet committed to organic farming practices and crafting an impressive variety of wines. The property features two Medici villas, a traditional frantoio (olive press), and a Vinsantaia, where their world-famous dessert wine is aged for years. Here, you’ll savor a farm-to-table lunch paired with estate wines and exceptional extra virgin olive oil.
After lunch, we’ll enjoy a guided walk through the estate, including its Italian gardens, historic cellars, and olive oil press, before returning to Florence in the late afternoon.
