Itinerary Nobile di Montepulciano
Your adventure begins at our meeting point in Florence at 8:45 AM. We recommend arriving a little early to check in and use the bathroom facilities before departure, and it’s a good idea to have breakfast beforehand to start your day off right. From there, we’ll head straight to Montepulciano in southeastern Tuscany, traveling mostly along scenic highways.
Your day will be led by one of our English-speaking expert Grape Guides. In a small group of no more than eight guests, you’ll board our luxury Mercedes van and head south from Florence toward the Montepulciano wine region, a journey of about an hour and a half to two hours depending on traffic. The beauty of joining our guided wine tour is that travel time is never wasted—your guide will share fascinating insights about the region, its rich winemaking traditions, and the wines you’ll soon be savoring. During the drive, you’ll also learn about the wineries we’ll be visiting, which we typically reveal only on the day of the tour as these small family-run estates are subject to availability.
Set high atop Tuscany’s rolling hills, the historic village of Montepulciano lends its name to one of Italy’s most celebrated wines: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. During the day, you’ll visit three wineries, one of which focuses on the winemaking process while another is dedicated to a leisurely lunch experience. We carefully select family-run wineries that not only produce excellent wines but also offer stunning views of vineyards, valleys, and hilltop towns. You’ll gain an insider’s look at the winemaking process and enjoy private tastings of their finest vintages in intimate and welcoming settings.
Before lunch, we often stop in the charming village of Montepulciano itself. Guests can wander through the historic gates, stroll the hilly streets lined with wine shops and artisan boutiques, and take in the unique atmosphere of this Tuscan gem. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended, as the streets can be quite steep.
We then head to a countryside restaurant and winery boasting panoramic views of Montepulciano and the surrounding hills, where a gourmet three-course lunch awaits. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared to showcase the region’s flavors and paired perfectly with local wines.
The day concludes with a visit to a hidden gem among Montepulciano’s wineries, a semi-hidden estate in a nearby medieval hamlet known for its traditional wines, warm hospitality, and beautiful scenery. After exploring the historical cellar and relaxing over a seated tasting, we return to Florence in the early evening.
