The winery:

Valdangius is a small winery in the area of Montefalco in Umbria owned and run almost entirely singlehandedly by Danilo. The winery itself has been developed in the cellars of the old family house, and the vineyards are in the immediate surroundings just around the cellar. A completely closed circuit perfect for handcrafted wines from organic grapes.

The wine:

Sagrantino is a grape variety that originates in Montefalco and what characterizes it particularly is its high tannins. For this reason, when wines are made from pure Sagrantino they are slightly dried before fermentation. This post-maturation or drying process gives smoother tannins in a wine that has higher concentration of alcohol, thus the structure of the wines are balanced out. If you love deep dark powerful wines, Sagrantino di Montefalco will be right up your alley. Delicious!
