Enjoy a beautiful ride into the wine country and learn from our knowledgeable Grape guide. We visit 3 family-owned wineries of which one’s a castle, another is a noble family farm and the last is small and artisanal. Tour the cellars and learn different aspects of Tuscan wine making. Carmignano wine tour with Grape Tours from Florence

Grape CLASSICS

MEDICI WINES & VILLAS - from April to October

Carmignano is the name of Tuscany’s smallest and possibly oldest wine region, at least when it comes to growing Cabernet. The Medici family set its footprint in the region building several majestic Renaissance villas, and allegedly introduced the French grape hundreds of years ago. Today Carmignano boasts great traditional wines from whites, rosé, reds and dessert wines (some of Italy’s best!).

The first family-owned winery is biodynamic and makes delectable wines. We’ll learn about biodynamic practices and hear stories about the local traditions.

The second family-owned winery is the largest of the region, yet still organic and maker of many different wines. We’ll have a tasty lunch (al fresco if the weather allows it) paired with four different wines. After lunch, we’ll visit the impressive historical cellars and learn about dessert wine. The olive press is also super interesting to see and to understand how great olive oil is made in Tuscany.

We’ll stop at the majestic Poggio a Caiano Medici villa. Stroll around the gardens or perhaps peek inside.

ELITE - Extraordinary Grape Experience

CLASSICO GRAND CRU - from April - October

The Classico Grand Cru is the first of four Elite tours offered on different days. Chianti Classico is a great wine region located close to Florence. It offers not just traditional wines, but also great Super Tuscans. On this day, we’ll visit 3 wineries that are special for their winemaking approach and produce world-class wines.

At the first winery, you’ll learn about the meticulous process and the care that is taken in making these wines, you’ll taste some rare and exclusive bottles.

The second winery ages its wines underneath an ancient church overlooking the valley of Panzano. The tasting is inside the villa of the notorious owner and completely private to our group of wine lovers.

We proceed to one of our favourite countryside restaurants from where you will enjoy a panoramic view of a large part of Chianti Classico and beyond. We will sample different appetizers and kinds of pasta and end with a delicious dessert. The wines will be from this geographic subregion so you may taste the different cru of Chianti Classico.

In the afternoon we’ll stop at a small organic winery, producer of top wines. Our last tasting will be more casual so we can freely enjoy ourselves in the region before heading back into Florence.

View over San Gimignano on a wine tour with Grape Tours

ELITE - Extraordinary Grape Experience

TOWERS of SAN GIMIGNANO - from April - October

On Wednesdays, you have the chance to visit wineries in two adjacent regions, San Gimignano and Chianti Classico.

The San Gimignano village medieval towers alone are a view to behold. Millions of years ago the sea covered the area and left sediment that white Vernaccia grapes took a liking to. So this is Tuscany’s only well known white wine region.

We’ll visit a biodynamic winery that has a production of the finest whites of the region from young and fresh to structured whites. We’ll visit the vineyards and the winery and taste a variety of whites together with delicious appetizers.

Stretch your legs in San Gimignano before heading towards Chianti Classico where we will stop at an old hamlet turned winery with a lovely restaurant.

After a divine tasting menu served with the winery’s own wines, we will head to the third winery. It’s an old fairytale-like castle, family-owned and with an organic wine production dedicated to native grape varieties only. We’ll visit the winery including the old historical cellars, hear the stories of the castle and taste wines like nobility!

Winecountry in Montepulciano on a tour with Grape Tours

ELITE - Extraordinary Grape Experience

NOBILE di MONTEPULCIANO - from April - October

In the south, the Montepulciano wine region is the other excellence of Tuscany. Like Montalcino village is the namesake of Brunello, Montepulciano lends its name to the Vino Nobile. All around the hilltop village the vineyards sunbathe under the Tuscan sun.

We’ll start the day in one of Montepulciano’s modern wineries, with stunning views over the valleys lined by grapevines and olive groves. We will visit the winery to learn about the process and enjoy a private wine tasting.

Our second stop will be at a small family restaurant in a medieval hamlet. The walls are lined by some of the best bottles of Tuscany – a candy store for wine lovers. We will enjoy a delicious 3-course gourmet lunch.

We drive to Montepulciano village so you can enjoy a short walk in the cobblestoned alleys, after which we will head to one of Montepulciano’s most prestigious wineries for another wine tour and delightful sit-down tasting.
