Grattamacco

Perched on a hillside overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, Grattamacco is one of the founding wineries of the Bolgheri appellation and a true pioneer of the region's remarkable rise to international acclaim. Established in 1977, the estate occupies an exceptional position between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci, with vineyards reaching around 100 metres above sea level. This elevated location, cooled by constant sea breezes, gives the wines a distinctive elegance and freshness rarely found elsewhere in Bolgheri.

Today, the estate is part of the ColleMassari Group, owned by siblings Claudio, Maria Iris and Vittorio Tipa, whose family has become synonymous with some of Tuscany's finest wineries, including the legendary Poggio di Sotto in Montalcino. Under their stewardship, Grattamacco has continued to build on its reputation while remaining faithful to the pioneering spirit that first made it one of Bolgheri's benchmark producers.

The estate's 25 hectares of organically farmed vineyards are planted with both international and native grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Vermentino and the increasingly rare Sangiovese. Unlike most wineries in Bolgheri, Grattamacco's higher-altitude vineyards provide ideal conditions for Sangiovese, allowing it to play a more significant role in the estate's wines and adding a uniquely Tuscan character to their elegant blends.
