The winery:
Giuseppe Russo dedicated his recent effort to establish this reputable winery on the northern side of Etna (today considered the epicenter of the vulcano's wine renaissance) to his father, Girolamo. Though agriculture has modernized as well as winemaking, the work in the vineyards is done organically and in the oldfashioned way; by hand.
The wine:
After fermentation in stainless steel vats, the wines are transferred in casks where the malolactic happens spontanously in spring. The wine has hints of cherry and plum, notes of leather and tobacco, and on the palate it's fresh and complex, with soft, velvety tannins and an overrall good structure.
