Ciao, I'm Dario Pianese
I was born in Naples (not Florida), to a Neapolitan father and an English mother…"un bel mix" (interesting combo) as my Italian friends tell me!
After leaving Naples at the age of 8, I moved to England where I went to school up until 18. After then I traveled to various parts of the world that included America, Australia, and Asia. It was a blast and opened my eyes to the fact that the world is incredibly large and filled with all sorts of amazing places and people alike.
On my return to London, I worked in various sectors that included fashion and food, but it was a job as a Sommelier that really released the brakes and made me realise that it was the wine sector that I wanted to be a part of. After a few years, I moved from sommelier to retail, completing my WSET (level 3), and began working for a French wine company until the mid-noughties.
I decided I wanted to import Italian wine into the U.K. and specifically champion those smaller, more quality-focused producers whose wines weren’t to be found across the channel.
Cue to 2022 and the import business is still alive and kicking, but I am now in the pretty city of Florence and I really want to get stuck into something wine-focused but with a more hands-on approach (little did I know that would become a steering wheel).
I had researched a few wine tour companies within the city and soon realised that there was none better and more suited than Rebecca and Pierre’s Grape Tours. I got in contact with them and within a matter of weeks I was meandering through the hills and valleys of Tuscany with a van load of excitable wine lovers, visiting some of Tuscany’s most authentic and undiscovered producers.
Needless to say, it’s even more dreamy in real life!
