Capella Sant'Andrea - San Gimignano

Flavia & Francesco are the lovely hosts and owners of this farm where you will find some of San Gimignano's best organic wines. They both have a sparkle of happiness in their eyes and a contagious smile to greet you with. Time stands still - it's all about you - and Vernaccia! The farmhouse is classic of San Gimignano, displaying the tougher old times in the tasting room dedicated to old farm tools and old family photos. Recent times and revival of the indigenous Vernaccia grape have found good roots in this young family that runs the farm now. Vines are grown with passion, alongside chickens, a few goats, and mules. The approach in the vineyard is vigorously organic, and likewise inside the winery - relying mostly on native yeasts, filtration by precipitation, even going as far as to make a specific Vernaccia in vases made of terracotta, a local product from Impruneta. You will find the wines to be well made & clean. The basic Vernaccia is one of the finest of the area, whereas some of the reds, especially the San Gimignano Rosso and the 100% Ciliegiolo grape wine are big full-bodied reds that compete with the neighbouring Chianti Classico region.
