Tuscany in a Bottle

2008: Small mixed group tour (max 8 p) every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Taking home the wine and oil with you:

1. Most travelers come in by airplane and probably give a thought or two to how they are going to bring back all the souvenirs, presents both logistically and legally. A tip is to pack extremely light or bring old clothes that you can throw out on the way - and replace them with whatever goods you plan to take home with you.
There are several regulations for depending on your country of origin, however it is nowadays only possible to bring on liquid products in your check in luggage (so not on carry-ons). Putting a couple of bottles of wine in your luggage shouldn't be a problem as long as you use common sense and pack them in the middle of your suitcase in the box they come in or wrap them in towels (or bubble wrap that you can bring from home or buy in shops in the bigger towns). Styrofoam would of course be the safest container. You can order single styrofoam holders by emailing me before you come (
1,- each). Please write me to let me know that you would like me to bring some on the tour that you are going on.

How much you are allowed to carry with you (US only)

2. If it is very important to you to bring back the wine and oils, then it would also be possible to buy a row of styrofoam that contains either 6 ( 5 without cardboard box) or 2 to contain 12 bottles ( 10 - with cardboard box) that you can check in as a piece of luggage. You can preorder one by writing me and I shall bring it on the day of the tour for you to fill in as you please. The cases are the same as the ones used by the shippers to ship the wine overseas, so cardboard on the outside and styrofoam on the inside and can contain standard bottle sizes (Bordeaux or Burgundy shaped).

Shipping the wine back home:

3. You can ship from the wineries, wine shops or even through my service (www.tuscany-in-a-bottle.com). Bear in mind that it is quite costly (I personally haven't seen prices lower than 150 Euro for the shipping of a case of 12 bottles). However, it is efficient and handled by Mail Boxes Etc or by Global Wine Service "door to door" service, so directly from the winery or wine shop to your door. The shipping normally takes up to 2 weeks and occasionally can take longer if it gets held up in the US Customs. You can ship anything from 1 bottle to several cases of wine, it is however very expensive to send just one bottle and the price drops when you send more than one case from the same place.
