4. White Vernaccia di San Gimignano

The Tuscan Wine Society proposes this wine tour as a joinable excursion for members on Fridays with departure from Florence at 9 or privately with departure from your accommodation or nearby meeting point.
San Gimignano is hilltop town South of Florence famous for its many medieval towers. But it is also the location of one of the most important white wines of Italy named Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the absolute first white wine to receive the DOC status back in 1966.
In recent years the area has also shown an interesting potential for powerful red wines.

This area is very lush and will give you some of the best views of the rolling hills that Tuscany is known for.
Our first stop will be at an associated renowned chocolate maker where we will have a tasting of artisan chocolate.

Then we will head for an associated winery producer of Chianti and Riserva wines. The winery is organic/ biodynamic and the owners will show us around and talk to us about their production. Then it will be time for a tasting - if the weather allows it, we will do the tasting in the private garden, if not the tasting will be in the cellars.

We will then pay a quick visit to the town of San Gimignano and there will be a little time to shop for local products.

Lunch will be in an associated saffron producing farm, if not in wonderful local trattoria. A typical Tuscan lunch with fresh produce from the garden will be served. In addition it will be possible to taste the renowned Saffron of San Gimignano DOP and organic extra virgin olive oil cold press.

Then it will be time for a tasting in another associated family owned winery within the Vernaccia di San Gimignano region. We will do a tasting of a regular Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a Riserva of Vernaccia and several reds including a Super Tuscan.
Return to accommodation at approx. 5/6 p.m.

Wineries visited: 2 + chocolate tasting & vinegar tasting

This cultural experience is available every other Friday as a joinable excursion.

It can also be organized on other days privately - according to the availability of the associated farms.
