4. White Vernaccia di
San Gimignano
Tuscan Wine Tours
proposes this wine tour as a private tour.
San
Gimignano is hilltop town South of Florence famous for its many medieval
towers. But it is also the location of one of the most important white wines
of Italy named Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the absolute first white wine to
receive the DOC status back in 1966.
In
recent years the area has also shown an interesting potential for powerful red wines.
Departure at 9.00 a.m. from our meeting point.
This
area is very lush and will give you some of the best views of the rolling hills that
Tuscany is known for.
Our first stop will be at a renowned winerey - one of the historical founders of the Consorzio della Vernaccia.
We will have a chance to see the cellars, explain the vinification of both whites and
reds, and in the end we will do a tasting of a regular Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a Riserva of Vernaccia and
several red wines including a Super Tuscan.
We will then pay a quick
visit to the town of San Gimignano and there will be a little time to shop for local
products (eg. saffron, olive oil, wines, ceramics).
Possibly lunch will be in a saffron producing
farm. A typical Tuscan lunch with fresh produce
from the garden will be served, plus it will be possible to taste the
renowned Saffron of San Gimignano DOP.
After Lunch we will visit a different winery with more wine tasting,
olive oil tasting, and so forth. The second winery could be traded out for a
cheese farm - so contact me for your personal wishes.
If there is extra time we visit the town of cristal Colle Val d'Elsa.

Prices are in Euro (€) and include transportation in air-conditioned car/mini-van,
expert guide, two wine tastings in the best wineries & light lunch.
Departure from prearranged meeting points in, and in between, or within the
vicinities of Siena or Florence.
These private tours can normally be organized on
Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
It is advisable to book somewhat in advance.
