2008: Small mixed group tour (max 8 p) every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Tuscany is the largest region, producing quality wines, of Italy. It has many sub regions, known as "denominations" that are worth visiting, some rather famous (DOCGs) and some that are upcoming (DOCs). They all share the fact that each appellation and its region is distinct in its wine making and therefore no same wine is made in two separate sub regions.

As each wine region is unique, you will find a proposal of day tours to 5 different regions. If you are intending to book a private wine tour, you can freely choose your region of interest. In this regard, I might add that you should probably also consider your location in Tuscany when choosing the tour - because not all regions are as close as they might look on a map - if in doubt please do not hesitate to contact me and together we can work out the best suited itinerary for you.
If you are not up to a private tour and you are staying in or around Florence you could join one of my fun small group wine tours that have a fixed price - or another option is that you could simply want to split a private tour with fellow travelers. You can check out your options on this web-site or write to me for individual advice. In any way you choose to do your tour, it is guaranteed to be informative, enjoyable and at the same time relaxing.
During the day we will go through the history of wine making in Tuscany and possibly practice tasting techniques & evaluate wines together.
The wineries that I choose to go to are usually of the smaller, family run kind, makers of excellent wines
(when possible they will be organic or biodynamic) and so we will have the opportunity to discuss wines and wine making with the actual owner or enologist.
The tours are mostly about wine, logically, but there will be a chance to taste and shop for local products, olive oil and
, upon prior request, sample traditional balsamic vinegars of Modena.
Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis and dates are disappearing quickly so please, get in touch soon (see calendar for available dates)
.
All wine tours are conducted by myself, to see my profile: Rebecca.

Chianti Classico
Probably Italy's most renowned wine and the closest wine region to Florence and Siena, a rather vast and mountainous area that has taken as its mascot the black rooster which is to be found on the neck of every bottle of Chianti Classico. This region has in recent years upgraded in quality and the area has also got a name for the notorious Super Tuscan wines.

Brunello di Montalcino
This is with no doubt the most prestigious wine region and superb appellation that we have in Italy, noteworthy for its deep and complex red wines that are worth aging for decades. The region of the famous Brunello di Montalcino is in the South of Tuscany, so not as easy to reach, but it is by all means very much worth the longer ride.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
This is the third red wine region that is proposed. It's hidden well into Southern Tuscany and surrounds the adorable town of Montepulciano. The "noble wine from Montepulciano" historic origins made it one of the first wines of Tuscany for trade. It's an area well worth visiting and the wines are considered well worth the price.

Vernaccia di San Gimignano
Okay, so this is not one of the most famous wines that is made in Tuscany, but it is the only white wine region. Unique because the Vernaccia is only grown in this beautiful little region and it is possible to find some really good and reasonable ones, plus it is an upcoming region for the reds, so there is something for all palates!

Bolgheri - on the Etruscan Coast
Bolgheri is considered the small Italian Bordeaux. Very fine wines are being made in the Etruscan coastal region, in fact, the Bordeaux varietals seem to have found their natural Italian habitat in this region. The most famous wines that can reach sky-high prices are Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Masseto, Grattamacco...
